Mobility and logistics is fundamental for all relations, organizations and regions. Umeå has a strategic location in northern Europe, at an intersection where a constant flow of people, ideas, commodities and products is passing through – from north to south, and from west to east.
On a vertical level, Umeå connects all southbound shipments with the rest of the country and down to Europe, and on a horizontal level, transports from Mo i Rana, Norway and the Atlantic Ocean passes through Umeå on their way to Ostrobothnia in Finland going east. Trade has always gone through Umeå, making it a place were people have met in the crossroads, the city has always been open and inclusive. There are no strangers here.

In practical terms, Umeå City airport connects Umeå with the rest of Sweden and Europe via dozens of departures every day. The fast train leaves several times a day and takes you to Stockholm in about six hours. The ferry line to Vaasa connects Västerbotten to Ostrobothnia, an important link in the east-west-traffic – and with a brand new ferry, improving the connections over Kvarken.
The inner city traffic routes consists of densely woven bike- and pedestrian paths, along with the practical local transportation system Ultra, which provides dozens of buslines.
